Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Lacrosse Defeats 20th Ranked Lewis

Ten different players scored the first ten goals as the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Lacrosse rebounded to defeat No. 20 Lewis 15-5 on a cold, rainy afternoon inside Moretz Stadium. The Bears ran their home winning streak to 12 in a row with the victory.

LR held Lewis scoreless in the first quarter as Lewis only got three shots off while the Bears jumped out to a 6-0 lead. After the Flyers got on the board in the second quarter the Bears responded with three straight goals to take a 9-1 lead into halftime.

Ten different players scored the first ten goals before Tommy Aquilar and Joe Venazio added their second goals of the game to extend the lead to 12-2 heading into the final frame. Mason Ickes, Timothy Fritz, and Ayden Mowry added goals in the fourth period as the Bears cruised to a 15-5 win.

The Bears had 17 caused turnovers led by three each by Nate Ashley, Myles Moffat and Victor Powell. LR also held the Flyers to 12-of-24 on clear attempts. The Bears out shot the Flyers 63-20 while 32 of the 63 shots were on goal. Flyers goalie Riah Rathe made 17 saves on the day.

Four different goalies played for the Bears led by three saves from Rob Pensabene.

The Bears have not lost two straight games since March of 2019, a span of 48 games. This win was 124th in program history.

This is this the first matchup between programs and the 40th different opponent the Bears have played in their 13th year. Fritz, Ickes along with Jarrett Huff and Donovan Powell scored their first career goals.

L-R is 3-1 overall. The Bears will open SAC play under the lights when Mars Hill comes to town Wednesday night. Face-off is scheduled for 7pm.
