The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Golf team opened their season at The Bearcat Golf Classic finishing 14th Tuesday.
The field played three rounds and 54 holes of golf between two days. This was the Bears first competition in exactly 365 days.
There are 22 teams in this tournament including SAC opponents Newberry, Lincoln Memorial, Anderson, Carson-Newman, Coker and Catawba. Georgia College led the field finishing 1st with a final score of 856 (-8).
Liam Waldron led LR in the placing T-13 while shooting a 75-71-69–215 (-1) Cole Sutherland followed just behind finishing T-39 shooting 72-75-75– 222 (+6). Dawson Walker rounds out a the top three finishing T-48 shot a 75-74-75– 224 (+8).
Head Coach Elliot Gealy touched on how his team looked after their first tournament in a year.
“I think we learned a lot this week,” Gealy said. “It was our first tournament in a year and it showed in some parts of the guys games. We feel great about the future and will work hard to make adjustments necessary to compete for tournament championships for the rest of the spring season.”
The Bears will be back in action Monday March 15 at the Ralph Hargett Invitational hosted by Wingate.
