The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Golf team charged forward and finished tied for second place at the Hargett Memorial Invitational, hosted by Wingate University, Tuesday.
Individually, Liam Waldron secured the tournament win after winning a playoff on hole number 18 with a par. Waldron shot a 69-70-76 –215 (-1) for the tournament. Waldron collects his first tournament victory at LR and this is the first tournament victory for an LR men’s golfer since 2018 when Brad Robinson won the Donald Ross Intercollegiate.
This tournament was played at the Stonebridge Golf Club and Rolling Hills Golf Club. There were 15 teams in the field and five of those teams are South Atlantic Conference schools including Coker, Queens, Wingate, Tusculum and UVA Wise.
Erskine edged out LR by two strokes finishing 1st with a score of 293-292-302– 887 (+23)
Waldron also led the field with 14 birdies. Dawson Walker finished just behind Waldron in T-4 shooting a 71-77-73 –220 (+4). Cole Sutherland rounds out the top three for LR placing T-17 shooting a 78-73-74 –225 (+9).
The Bears will be back in action Sunday, March 21 at the Tusculum Invitational.
