Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Basketball Edge Out Emory & Henry

Lenoir-Rhyne men’s basketball team won against Emory and Henry on the road 83-73 Saturday.

In the second half, Emory & Henry led by as many as nine points, with 11:39 left to play, but the Bears chipped away at the lead. Jaquais Franklin got an and-one foul with 6:48 left in the game. After a media time out, Franklin stepped to the line and hit the free throw to give the Bears their first lead since the first half, when the Bears led seven minutes into the contest.

Franklin led the Bears with 20 points on the afternoon. In 34 minutes of play, he shot 7-of-12 from the field, including four-of-seven from beyond the arc. Cooper Fowler and Chase Mebane each led the Bears in rebounding with eight. All of Fowler’s rebounds were on the defensive end. Mebane had three offensive and five defensive snags. The Bears were a fantastic 14-of-15 from the free throw line. LR was also 56.4 % from the field, (31-55).

Lenoir-Rhyne owned the paint. Lenoir-Rhyne outrebounded the Wasps 30-26. In addition, LR had 44 points in the paint. The Wasps could only manage 22. With the win, head coach Everick Sullivan picked up career win number 100.

Lenoir-Rhyne is 14-13 overall, 9-10 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Bears return to Shuford Arena to take on the Wingate Bulldogs on Wednesday.
