Lenoir-Rhyne Golf Compets at NCAA Regionals

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Golf Team competed in the first ever NCAA Southeast Regional this week at the Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Georgia. The Bears finished in 15th place as the Bears moved up one spot on the final day. Sean Finan finished in a tie of 7th place to become the first Bears to finish in the top ten in a NCAA regional.

The Bears had to wait a day to start the tournament as rain postponed day one as the teams had to play 36 holes on Friday before Saturday’s final round. The Bears were in 16th place heading into Saturday shooting a 297 on the final day to move up a spot.

LR shot a 293 in round one, a 307 in round two before Saturday’s 297 for a team score of 891. The Bears was one shot off of Lincoln Memorial for 14th while No. 1 North Georgia took the victory beating South Atlantic Conference member Coker for the championship.

Finan shot a 73 on the final day to finish in tie from seventh place. Finan shot a team best round of 70 on the first day then a 72 on the second round to finish one under for the tournament. Matthew McDougall finished in 55th place, Jake Moore finished in 63rd, Holt Allison finished in 76nd, and Mads Boas was in 103rd place.

The Bears had just 27 birdies on the weekend and one eagle from Finan. He tied for the best scoring on the Par 5’s at eight under.

A great season of golf concluded this week as the Bears had a great first ever NCAA Regional appearance.
