Lenoir-Rhyne Golf Announce Recruiting Class for Women and Men’s Team

Director of Men’s and Women’s Golf Elliot Gealy has announced his 2022 Recruiting Class for both genders. Gealy has added three to the women’s side and five to the men’s program.

“The 2022 men’s recruiting class is a strong group of young men that will add valuable talent to the roster,” said Gealy. “Our team next season will have a great mixture of experience and youth and have all the tools necessary to compete for a Conference Championship and an NCAA Regional Bid.”

“The women’s class will be ready to go once we start competing this August. The girls have a great blend of talent, experience and work ethic that will be enjoyable to watch alongside our current roster. The women have very high goals this year and this class will help us attain them and more.”

2022 Men’s Golf Recruiting Class

Andrew Bull (Candler, NC): Andrew is a graduate of Enka High School and will complete his studies with a 3.625 GPA. He was a two-sport athlete competing on the Jets’ basketball and golf teams. In his senior year, Andrew finished second in the conference standings and was awarded All-Conference accolades. He had a low round of 72 during his high school career with 6 individual wins during his senior season. In the summer of 2021, Andrew finished fourth at the Lonnie Poole Jr at NC State’s University Golf Course.

“Andrew will be a perfect fit for the Bears’ Golf program this fall. He has an enthusiastic personality and has all the tools necessary to be a solid contributor to the team on and off the golf course.”

Rodrigo Campos Lugo (Mexico City, Mexico): Rodrigo will be attending Lenoir-Rhyne after studying at the International Junior Golf Academy in Bluffton, SC. He performed very strong in the classroom and will graduate with a 3.7 GPA. During his career, Rodrigo had several consistent tournaments while competing at the IJGA. In a few of the IJGT events in Hilton Head, SC, Rodrigo fired rounds of 77-78 in September 2021, 78-79 in February 2022 and 79-77 in March 2022.

“Rodrigo has a lot of passion for the game and has worked hard at the IJGA. He will be exciting to watch grow during his career and be a vital part of the Bears’ Golf program success.”

Sean Finan (Winston Salem, NC): Sean is a graduate of Wesleyan Christian School and will be completing his studies with a 3.785 GPA. Along with having a solid academic career, Sean performed at a very high level on the golf course. Not only was he a team leader for his high school, but he also played very well during the summer. In 2021 he finished 2nd in the Archdale Trinity Chamber Jr Open (70-71) with a 3-under par total, had a Top 5 finish in the High Point Jr after rounds of 68-75 and qualified for the AJGA Wyndham with a 3-under par 69.

“Sean has a ton of potential and we are looking forward to what he brings to the golf team. I believe Sean is just scratching the surface with his results and we look forward to his addition to the program.”

Sam Mace (Connelly Springs, NC): Sam will come to Hickory after a stellar 4.0 GPA in the classroom and a great career on the golf course at East Burke High School. He also had several strong results during his junior career including a T-13 finish in the 2021 Carolinas Junior (69-76-71). In addition, Sam had top-10 finishes in the Hope Valley Jr (71-74-69) and the Bill Harvey Memorial (74-69). Sam concluded his strong 2021 summer with a win at the Mimosa Hills Jr firing 3-under par 69.

“Sam has all the qualities LR Golf looks for in a person and a player. He has had a strong junior career and will be a great addition to our program and team culture.”

Jake Moore (Bournemouth, UK): Jake will be joining the Bears in the fall after attending Twynham South Form in England. He will graduate with a strong 4.5 GPA as well as earning a 25 on the ACT. On the course, Jake is a representative of the Southwest Regional England Squad. He also was the 2021 County Boys Champion after shooting rounds of 70-72. Jake continued his stellar play finishing 4th in the 2021 Champion of Champions shooting 1 under par for the tournament.

“Jake is going to be a great addition to our program next fall and we look forward to watching him compete. He brings a very athletic background to the team as well as a great work ethic on and off the golf course.”

2022 Women’s Golf Recruiting Class

Marta Escudero Cano (Murcia, Spain): Marta will travel to Hickory and join the women’s golf program after graduating from Colegio San Ignacio with a 3.9 GPA. Along with being a solid student, Marta had an impressive junior golf career in Spain. During her play, she had rounds of 77 at the U18 Spanish Championships, 74 in the XXX Conde Barcelona event and shot a one-under par 71 at the Absoluto Region de Murcia in September of 2021.

“Marta will add another talented player from Spain to our roster. We look forward to what she brings to the program and are very excited to watch Marta’s game develop and help the team improve.”

Amelia Rae Greenlee (Roseville, CA): Amelia Rae joins the Bears after completing her studies with a 3.54 GPA at the Horizon Charter School in California. She also had a very impressive junior career including several high finishes. Recently, Amelia Rae fired 71-79 to finish top 5 in the JTNC Spring Series at Paradise Valley GC and Rancho Solano GC. She also shot 76-73 in the Notah Begay San Jose Regional Qualifier as well as 71-75 in the JGANC Sacramento County Jr Golf Championships.

“Amelia Rae is a very dedicated young woman that will bring passion to the team and a whole lot of talent. It has been a pleasure to watch Amelia Rae grow during the recruiting process and we can’t wait to watch her compete this year for the Bears.”

Lindsey Hodge (Morganton, NC): Lindsey will make the short ride to Hickory after graduating with a 4.0 GPA from Draughn High School. For her impressive academic record, Lindsey was honored as a member of the National Honor Society and finished as the Salutatorian in her class. On the course, Lindsey was a valuable member of her High School golf team. During her career, she had a stroke average of 42, served as the team captain and led the team at several high school matches. Lindsey capped her career for the Vikings by qualifying for the 2021 NCHSAA State Championships.

“Lindsey is a model student-athlete and will bring all the characteristics we look for in our women’s golf program. We are excited to watch Lindsey’s game mature and blossom during her career at LR.”
