Lenoir-Rhyne Golf Adds Nine to Team Rosters
Lenoir-Rhyne women’s golf head coach Elliot Gealy has announced the addition of four golfers to his 2023 signing class.
“Our 2023′ Women’s Golf Recruiting Class will have an immediate impact once our season starts this August,” said Gealy. “The girls have a great blend of talent, experience and passion that will be enjoyable to watch alongside our current roster. We are excited about the future of LR Women’s Golf and this class will help us attain our goals and more.”
Charlotte Colley (Yorkshire, England): Charlotte will travel to Hickory and join the women’s golf program after graduating from San Ignacio with a 3.9 GPA and a 1400 on the SAT. Along with being a great student, Charlotte had an impressive junior golf career in England. In 2022 Charlotte won the North of England schools championships, finished second in the English Schools National championships, and finished fourth in the Fairhaven Trophy. In 2023 Charlotte has already finished fifth in the Fairhaven Trophy with rounds of (74-79-81-77).
What Coach Gealy says about Charlotte: “Charlotte has all the skill to have an immediate impact on our ladies golf program. She has a passion for the game and desire to be a champion that will help our young team compete for championships.”
Sarah Durham (Hickory, NC): Sarah will join the Bears after completing her studies with a 4.0 GPA at the Hickory Christian Academy. During her time as a Knight, Sarah was the class president all four years as well as a member of the Beta Club. On the course, Sarah was the team captain and finished in the top 15 in all four of her state championship starts. She has also competed on the Peggy Kirk Bell Tour and CGY/TYGA earning six top 10’s and two top 5 finishes.
What Coach Gealy says about Sarah: “Sarah is a very dedicated young women that will bring talent and passion to our ladies program. I have had the pleasure of watching Sarah work on her game at Lake Hickory CC and am excited to see her play her best golf as a Bear.”
Eve Neild (Norwich, England): Eve comes to Hickory after an impressive academic career earning her diploma in sporting excellence. She also capped an impressive academic record with a 1310 on the SAT as well as a 4.0 GPA from Thorpe St. Andrew School. On the course in 2022, Eve won the Norfolk Ladies County Championship, she was a member of the England East Region squad, represented England in the English Schools versus Wales, represented England against Ireland in U16 and recorded a 3rd place finish in the U16 R&A Girls Championships.
What Coach Gealy says about Eve: “Eve is a model student-athlete that will bring international experience and impressive tournament results to our team. We look forward to watching her compete and grow during her career as a LR Bear.”
Jaya Wilkinson (London, England): Jaya will arrive at Lenoir-Rhyne following her graduation from the Cranleigh School with a 4.0 GPA and earning the Psychology award. Her golfing accolades include winning the junior president’s cup at West Hill golf club, earning Team Captain honor’s at Cranleigh School, placing 10th at the Scottish Girls U16’s, winning the Helme Shield with West Hill golf club and representing the Surrey Ladies while winning the Stovold Trophy.
What Coach Gealy says about Jaya: “Jaya is a very promising young player that is ready to break out as a Bear. She has all the skill and experience needed to make a positive impact on the team and help us win championships.”
In addition, Lenoir-Rhyne head men’s golf coach Elliot Gealy has announced his 2023 signing class. The group of five players will be joining the Bears in the fall.
“The 2023′ Men’s Golf Recruiting class has a great blend of talent and experience that will add depth to an already talented roster,” said Gealy. “Our team next season will have attainable goals and all the tools necessary to compete for a Conference Championship and a NCAA Regional Bid.”
Mads Emil Boas (Roskilde, Denmark): Mads joins the Bears as a transfer from Western Texas Junior College. During his academic career for the Westerners, Mads earned Presidents list honors on three occasions. On the course in Denmark, Mads won the DJGA Spring Open (74-73-70), finished runner-up in the Dormy Elite Tour (68-65-70) and recently earned runner-up honors at the Wiibroe Cup (73-71-70). In his career at Western Texas JC, Mads top finish was a third place finish at the Andrews College Am Invite firing rounds of (70-69).
What Coach Gealy says about Mads: “We are really excited to have Mads join our program this fall. He will bring needed experience to our young team as well as a passion to be a great teammate and win championships.”
Adam Gregg (Mexico City, Mexico): Adam will be attending Lenoir-Rhyne after studying at Montverde Academy and training at the International Junior Golf Academy outside of Orlando, FL. Along with earning a 3.26 GPA at Montverde Academy, Adam had several strong results on the golf course. While competing in Mexico, he had top finishes in the Copa zona Norte, Copa zona Centro, Spring series 5 and Copa Yucatan with rounds of (73-74-81).
What Coach Gealy says about Adam: “Adam will be our second recruit from Mexico that trained at IJGA. He is an explosive player that will be exciting to watch develop and grow during his career for the Bears.”
Archie Mathers: (Hertfordshire, England): Archie is a graduate of the Bedford School and will complete his studies with a 4.0 GPA before joining the Bears. Along with having a strong academic career, Archie performed at a very high level on the golf course. In the summer of 2022 he won the Hertfordshire Junior Championships as well as the Bedfordshire Schools Championships. Archie was also the National Schools Runner-Up and was a member of back to back Hertfordshire Division 1 Scratch Team Champions.
What Coach Gealy says about Archie: “Archie comes from a very athletic background while also competing on his school’s cricket team. I believe Archie is just scratching the surface with his golf results and we look forward to his addition to the program.”
Matthew McDougall (Waxhaw, NC): Matthew will come to Hickory after an impressive academic career at Cuthbertson High School graduating with a 3.6 GPA. On the course, Matthew was ranked #12 in the 2022 NC Junior Boys rankings. He also was recognized as an All American in the Pinehurst Winternational Junior Series and won the prestigious Shulby Sportsmanship Award. In the summer of 2023, Matthew has finished in the top 5 of the NC Junior Boys Championships and earned a T13 in the Bojangles Junior Open with rounds of (72-73-72).
What Coach Gealy says about Matthew: “Matthew is another strong addition from the 2023 recruiting class. He has had a lot of success as a standout junior player and will be a great addition to our program and team culture.”
Carson Witherspoon (Morganton, NC): Carson will be joining the Bears in the fall after attending North Carolina A&T University. He is also a graduate of Sandhills CC in the spring of 2022. During his time at Sand Hills CC, Carson earned an A.A.S. in Civil Engineering, an A.A.S. in Geomatics, Deans’ list recognition and graduated Magna Cum Laude. On the course, Carson was a member of back-to-back Team National Championships while finishing 9th and 6th individually in 2021 and 2022.
What Coach Gealy says about Carson: “I am really looking forward to have Carson join us next fall. He has a ton of experience playing high level golf and winning National Championships. We look forward to watching him compete as a Bear during his final year of competition.”
