The Lenoir-Rhyne Cross Country team competed in the Montreat Fall Classic Saturday morning. This marked the first competition for Lenoir-Rhyne in any sport since March 11, 2020 (220 days).
The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s team only had two member compete but had two top 20 placings. Senior Brett Vogelsang finished fifth in the Men’s 8k with a time of 26:15. Sean Incardona followed suit and finished 20th with a time of 27:25.8.
On the Women’s side, LR finished 2nd overall out of four teams with a total time of 1:35:43 and an average 5k time of 19:25. Janet Kwambai led the way for LR finishing second in the Women’s 5k with a final time of 18:19.8 and an average mile time of 5:54. Pacing right behind Kwambai, were Caroline Hilliard and Kylie Dahlberg placing sixth and eighth with times of 18:40.1 and 18:58.6 respectively.
Head Coach Kevin Paterson commented on his teams performances.
“Today was a great day getting the chance to compete after so much uncertainty felt amazing,” Paterson said. “We had some great performances, but what I’m most proud of is the character of our team we’ve asked them to do so much to get back to this point it was a really great moment watching them race at such a high level today.”
The Bears will be back in action at the Queens Track Club race on October 30.
