Lenoir-Rhyne Colley Finishes Second at Hilton Head

Charlotte Colley finished in second place at this week’s Battle at Hilton Head as the Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Golf team finished in a tie for fifth place in the 18-team event hosted by Lincoln Memorial.

Colley entered the final day in first place and shot an even par on the day but Maria Torres Lobato of Oklahoma Christian shot an impressive -7 on the day to overcome Colley and take home the gold. Colley finished -1 for the tournament which is a career best for the freshman. This also marks her third top ten finish and her second straight after last week’s fourth place finish.

Oklahoma Christian also took home the team title over SAC foe Wingate by nine strokes while the Bears finished in fifth place in a tie with Carson-Newman. Both teams were 17 strokes off the lead. Carson-Newman finished one stroke ahead of the Bears in last’s week tournament. LR shot a 621 in the two rounds.

Bears were strong in the Par 3s this week finished in third place at +6, two strokes off Belmont Abbey and LR also had the best team score on the Par 5s at +2 but LR struggled on the Par 4s. Bears were just 9th best on the Par 4s which slipped the Bears into a 5th place tie.

Colley had three birdies on the week which were second most of anyone in the field while Marta Cervero, Eve Nield and Jaya Wilkinson had each had a birdie.

Nield had the second best finish for the Bears in 14th place after improving four shots in the second round today. Wilkinson finished in 35th place after an eight shot improvement on Tuesday. Marta Escudeo (54th) and Cervo (59th) rounded out the Bears scoreboard.

Bears will head to Mt. Pleasant, S.C. for the Low Tide Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by Limestone on Monday.
