Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Wins Series Finale Over Emory and Henry

The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team earned its first sweep in conference play with a 14-7 victory over Emory & Henry.

The Bears capped off the weekend with a wire-to-wire win that started by scoring the first seven runs of the contest. Despite the Wasps bringing their deficit back to two, the Bears tallied four unanswered runs to generate more breathing room.

The offense recorded its second 15-hit game of the series as nine unique batters recorded a knock. Four of the nine batters also had multi-hit days, while Sal Carricato and Cole Laskowski each had three hits.

Joshua Lanham, who came out of the bullpen, earned his fourth win of the season. The redshirt senior, who transitioned to a relief role a few weeks ago, tossed a hitless inning on the mound.

With the victory, the Bears moved back above .500 in conference play with an 8-7 SAC record. That is the first time since Feb. 24 when they had a 3-2 start in league play.

Laskowski led the Bears with a three-RBI performance. That marks the seventh multi-RBI game that the redshirt junior has recorded this season. Also for Laskowski, the Lancaster, N.Y. native has extended his hitting streak to nine games. That’s the longest active streak on the team.

Owen Blackledge had a two-hit game off the bench. This was only the fifth game of the season that the junior was not included in the starting lineup.

The Bears had one of their most active games on the base paths with six stolen bases. That ties for the most stolen bases in a single game this season along with the March 14 contest against Saint Michael’s.

Emory & Henry’s starter C.J. Lincoln lasted only 1.1 innings on the mound. The Wasps left-handed pitcher allowed five hits and five earned runs in his appearance.

With the win, LR now leads the all-time series, 9-2. As conference opponents, LR has a 6-0 record over the Wasps. The Bears also swept Emory & Henry in a three-game series back in 2023 at Emory, Va.

This four-game winning streak is tied for the longest on the season for the Bears. The other time the Bears had won four straight was in the season-opening series against Flagler.

With the three wins, LR now improves to 11-4 at home. The next five games for the Bears will take place at Durham Field.

Thanks to their three-straight conference victories, LR has improved to a tie for seventh in the SAC standings. The Bears are tied with Carson-Newman, which will be the next opponent they will see in conference play.

The Bears are 20-12 overall, 8-7 in the South Atlantic Conference. Lenoir-Rhyne will continue its eight-game home stand with a three-game series against Carson-Newman. In 2023, the Eagles took two of three over the Bears in Jefferson City, Tenn. The series opener is scheduled for Friday, March 29 at 5 p.m.
