Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Falls at Francis Marion

E.J. Ranel hit a pair of three-run home runs but it was not enough as the Bears fell to Francis Marion 14-9 in non-conference play. The Bears jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the top of the second but the Patriots scored the games last ten runs.

Two innings in and LR had two three-run home runs for E.J. Ranel both with two outs in the inning as the Bears put a four spot in the first and five spot in the second. Matt Mackey went back-to back with Ranel in the second inning for his first homer of the season. For the first time since April 2, 2016, the Bears hit back to back homeruns. Colby Dishmond and Hank Smitherman did it against Coker.

Drue Galassi, Will Jones and Xander Ferlenda each had two hits for the Bears. After ten hits in the first two innings, the Patriots pitchers held the Bears to one more hit the rest of the game.

Bears got scoreless outing from Michael Allen, Ray Stocum, Jarod Large, Hayden Gresham and Ben Friebel. Chipper McGinnis got the loss for the Bears, giving up four earned runs while only getting one out.

The Bears have now lost to Francis Marion in back-to-back years and the Patriots tied the all-time series at two wins apiece.

L-R drops to 3-4 on the season. The Bears return to SAC play this weekend with a four-game series at Queens. First pitch for game one on Saturday is 11am.
