Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Explodes for 20 Runs in Home Win

The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team continued its success at home against non-conference opponents with a 20-6 victory over Auburn University of Montgomery.

In the eight innings that the LR offense was at the plate, the Bears posted a crooked number in five of them. In addition, four of the five multi-run innings saw LR score four or more runs.

For the last three home non-conference contests, the LR offense has not had too many worries at the plate with 73 runs. That includes a 17-run game against Chowan on Feb. 20 and 36 runs against Saint Michael’s on March 14.

For the second consecutive outing, the Bears found the exit ramp with four home runs. All four shots came from unique batters in Alex Rich, Owen Blackledge, Hogan Stallings, and Cole Stanford.

Caleb Cockerham, who earned the victory on the mound, brought his record back to 1-1 after being handed the loss against Carson-Newman on March 30.

Sal Carricato led the team with a five-RBI performance. The redshirt junior drove in the five runs off three hits. This is the first five-RBI game of Carricato’s career at LR.

Stanford also had a three-hit game for the Bears. This is the second consecutive game that the redshirt junior has tallied three hits. Cole Laskowski extended his team-high hitting streak to 13 games. The redshirt junior has had a hit in all but one game since Feb. 10 against Southern Wesleyan.

The Warhawks had some opportunities slip through their fingers as they left 11 runners on base. The Bears stranded seven on the base paths. Out of 19 hits the Bears collected, six of them were extra-base hits.

With the LR win, the Bears lead the all-time series, 3-1. This marked the first-ever meeting between these two programs in Hickory, N.C. In home non-conference games, LR is 6-1. On games played on a Tuesday games, LR is 5-1.

The Bears look for their second-straight series victory over Auburn University of Montgomery. The Bears took two of three over the Warhawks in Montgomery, Ala. from Feb. 4-5, 2023.

The Bears are 22-14 overall. LR will conclude its eight-game home stand with another contest against Auburn University of Montgomery. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3 at 2 p.m. from Durham Field.
