Lenoir-Rhyne Athletic Staff Named South Atlantic Conference’s Staff of the Year

The South Atlantic Conference Athletic Trainers Committee have announced that the Lenoir-Rhyne athletic training staff have been selected as the 2023-24 Athletic Training Staff of the Year. This is the third time the LR athletic training staff has won the award, as they also took it home in 2015 and 2022.

“We are blessed to have one of the top collegiate Athletic Training staff in the country let by Michael Flicker,” said Kim Pate, Vice President for Athletics. “Our Athletic Training staff goes above and beyond to ensure the highest possible level of care, while always prioritizing student-athlete well-being. This award is well deserved and helps validate the countless hours and effort invested in our student-athlete’s health and overall success.”

Led by two-time Jeff L. Norris Non-Teaching LR Employee of the Year Michael Flicker, the Bears athletic training staff this past year was made up of six certified athletic trainers: Anna Catherine Sasser, Allie Dudick, Ryan McDonough, Sarah Lightfoot, Stephanie Dudzik, and Dr. Stephanie Stadden. This group was responsible for covering all 23 Lenoir-Rhyne athletic programs, and were instrumental in their coverage of the NCAA Women’s Soccer regional, Football’s first round game vs. Shepherd, and Men’s Lacrosse’s NCAA opener vs. Limestone.

“It is wonderful to be recognized for this award, especially with the quality of athletic trainers in this league,” stated Senior Associate AD and Head Athletic Trainer Michael Flicker. “This award is a testament to the work our AT staff has put in put our LR athletes in the best position for success.”

Brandon Auton, Associate AD/Head Athletic Trainer at Catawba added “Michael Flicker and the entire Sports Medicine staff at Lenoir-Rhyne provides great health care. They go above and beyond to be a great host at all their athletic events. They are a class act program and go the extra mile to make sure we always have everything we need. It was generous of the staff to provide lunch for all the AT’s at the conference track meet which shows their true character as people and health care providers.”

Josh Nelson, Head Athletic Trainer at Limestone added his own praise for the department “The staff that Michael Flicker has put together at LR sets the standard for the SAC. There is no question when traveling to Lenoir-Rhyne that Flick and his staff will go above and beyond to make sure your team and staff feel at home and supported.”

The award is voted on by the South Atlantic Conference Athletic Trainers Committee.
