Lenoir Man Charged With Drug Offenses Following Morganton Traffic Stop

48-year-old Stacy Joe Sheppard of Shewcraft Place in Lenoir was arrested Tuesday (January 2) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. A second suspect was arrested in this case and charged with misdemeanor and traffic offenses.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday, a Public Safety Officer conducted a traffic stop on Kirksey Drive in Morganton on a silver 2011 Nissan Rogue. Police reports say the vehicle was blocking the lanes for both east and westbound traffic. Sheppard, who was the passenger in the vehicle, was taken into custody and charged with the felony and misdemeanor drug counts.

During the investigation, police reportedly seized three grams of methamphetamine, 14 dosage units of hydrocodone, two dosage units of clonazepam, and five dosage units of oxymorphine hydrochloride. Sheppard was brought to the Burke County Jail and was confined under a 48-hour-hold or until the first judge becomes available. A Court date is scheduled for Thursday (January 4).
