31-year-old Edenilson J. Avila-Martinez of Prospect Street in Lenoir was arrested Sunday (April 9) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance (cocaine). Avila-Martinez is also charged with driving while impaired and open container after consuming.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday an officer responded to Normandy Drive in Morganton in reference to an impaired driver. The officer came into contact with the driver of the vehicle, Avila-Martinez. He was arrested and brought to the Burke County Jail. During the investigation, police reportedly seized .01 grams of cocaine.

Bond for Avila-Martinez was set at $3,000 secured. He is not listed as an inmate in Burke County today (April 12). The next District Court date for Avila-Martinez is scheduled for May 1.
