In conjunction with the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program, the Morganton Department of Public Safety invited surrounding agencies to participate in a multi-agency checking station on Friday (September 18) for several hours. Coordination and partnership between 7 different agencies resulted in getting an alleged impaired driver off the road, the service of two outstanding warrants, and close to 80 traffic charges.

The checking station took place near the City limits on both sides of 18 North and resulted in 76 traffic charges, varying from seat belt violations, no operator’s licence and driving while revoked charges, no insurance, and registration violations.

The Morganton Department of Public Safety thanked the following agencies who assisted: the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, the NC State Highway Patrol, Lenoir Police Department, Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, Valdese Police Department and the Drexel Police Department.
