An elderly man who apparently walked away from his home on Saturday night (May 21) was found Sunday night in a wooded area on Mary Ester Modlin Trail in Iron Station.
The 80-year-old man (who has dementia) was reported missing Sunday night. The man’s son told Officers that he went to bed Saturday night, but did not check on his father. Sunday morning, he got up and left to pick up some food. When he returned home, he discovered that his father was missing.
The son called 9-1-1 after a brief search of the wood line was unsuccessful. The Lincoln County Land Search & Drone teams were dispatched to the scene. Deputies searched nearby buildings, roads, and homes without success, but did find clues regarding a direction of travel.
Crews searched a nearby heavily wooded area and found the man at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday night. He was carried out to a waiting E.M.S. unit and transported to Atrium Health – Lincoln for evaluation and treatment.
