L-R’s Alvestrand Earns Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honors

Lenoir-Rhyne’s Patrik Alvestrand was named the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced.

The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference’s championship sports and is voted on by the SAC’s Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.

Alvestrand, a senior from Norrkoping, Sweden, has a 3.99 grade point average while majoring in finance and business management. He was named to the Lenoir-Rhyne President’s List and the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll all four years and is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, an honor society established to recognize college student-athletes who excel both on and off the field of competition. As a junior, Alvestrand was awarded the SAC Elite 20, which honors the student-athlete with the top cumulative grade-point average in each of the league’s team championship sports.

On the court, Alvestrand finished his senior year with an 8-11 singles record (positions 3, 4, and 5) and a 4-5 doubles record (positions 2 & 3). As a junior he recorded a singles record of 6-6 and doubles record of 11-7, and as a sophomore he had a 9-6 singles record and 10-6 doubles record.

In addition to his success on the court and in the classroom, Alvestrand has been very active in the Lenoir-Rhyne community. He was a member of the Bears Leadership Academy during his junior and senior year, was named a team captain as a senior, and volunteered with the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis team during all four years.
