L-R Women’s Track and Field Picked Second, Men Fourth in Preseason SAC Poll

Lenoir-Rhyne women’s track and field was picked 2nd and the men’s team was picked 4th in the SAC Outdoor Track and Field Preseason Poll released by the Conference on Tuesday. The Bear women received two first-place votes as well. Queens was picked as the favorite to win the league in both genders.

Each school had athletes to watch named as well, and Emmanuella Kone, Jordan Shealey, Janet Kwambai and Melody Jones were the women’s athletes to watch. For the men, Marlin Davis, Dario Matau, Jacob Wadsworth and Ellis Horton were the athletes to watch.

The Bear women finished 2nd at the 2022 SAC Indoor Championships, and the men took 4th. At last year’s SAC Outdoor Championships, the women took 3rd and the men took 7th.

Both teams got off to a strong start in outdoor season this past weekend when both finished first in the Southside Power and Fitness Invitational here in Hickory. Both will continue outdoor season this weekend at the Weems Baskin Invite at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
