L-R Women’s Tennis Suffers Second Conference Loss of Season

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team took a 5-2 loss to their first nationally ranked opponent this season in No. 24 Anderson.

Lucy Whelan had another perfect day on the court as she went 2-0 in the afternoon. The Graduate Student won the only singles match of the day for the Bears with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 line.

The match started off well for LR as the top two doubles teams grabbed some convincing victories to capture the early doubles point. The No. 1 team of Whelan and Alicia Wahlberg won 6-2 while the No. 2 duo of Evgeniya Pugina and Sandy Mitsou blanked their opposition, 6-0.

Outside the lone singles victory at No. 3 singles, it was a tough afternoon for the Bears as they dropped the other five matches in straight sets.

The Bears are 7-7 overall, 3-2 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team will return to action later this week on Thursday, March 23, when they face Newberry on the road.
