L-R Women’s Tennis Downs Francis Marion
The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team snapped their two-match losing streak on Sunday as the Bears took down Francis Marion, 6-1.
The complete team effort started with all three doubles teams winning their matches swiftly to take the point over the Patriots.
Evgeniya Pugina made her return to the lineup after missing Thursday’s match vs. Lees-McRae and pulled out a three-set thriller over Karatantcheva in No. 1 singles, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Lucy Whelan completed her perfect week with her three-set victory in No. 3 singles. The graduate student won the first set in a convincing manner, 6-0, but dropped the second set, 4-6, before pulling out the match with another dominant set score in the third, 6-1.
In No. 5 singles, Evelin Menyhart also pulled out a tight three-set victory in a flip-flop match score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 over Camryn Cassetori.
Natalie Lutz and Jessica Fuchs were each on the winning side of a dominating match result. In No. 4 singles, Lutz handled her opponent in a 6-0, 6-2 final; Fuchs had a similar result by shutting down Julia Pinto in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Tennis Team will continue its five-game homestand on Thursday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m. when they welcome conference foe Emory & Henry to Hickory, N.C.
