The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Lacrosse Team dropped a 20-8 decision to Wingate on Wednesday afternoon. Kendall Wells scored six goals, including the 200th of her career, as Wingate scored 15 times in the first half.
After Wingate scored the first goal of the game, Frances Williams and Jolan Morey went back-to-back to give the Bears a 2-1 advantage. Wingate netted the evener before Cathleen Gaffney gave the Bears a 3-2 lead with 19:17 to play in the first half.
From that point on, Wingate scored 11 of the next 12 goals to pull away.
In goal, Teanna Sieben made 12 saves. Wingate held a 33-15 advantage in shots and put 32 of those shots on goal. Wingate won 21 of the 30 draw controls in the game.
This was the first loss to Wingate in program history. The Bears had been 7-0 all-time against the Bulldogs.
Lenoir-Rhyne falls to fifth in the league standings with the loss. Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Bears will return to action on Saturday when they host Lincoln Memorial at 7:30 p.m.
