L-R Women’s Lacrosse Doubles Up Coker in Road Win

-In their first road game of the season, Lenoir-Rhyne women’s lacrosse used a season-high 19 goals to move to 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference play in a 19-8 win over Coker. The Bears have scored at least 18 against the Cobras in four straight matchups.

Chloe Christensen got LR off to a hot start with three goals in the first 16 minutes of the game as the Bears ran out to a 4-2 advantage. Coker cut the LR lead to 6-4 with back-to-back goals but the Bears would answer with three unanswered goals.

The teams would trade goals to start the second half and it was 10-6 but it was all LR from that moment on. Jolan Morey scored a goal with the extra player and Emilee Foxall made it 12-6. After a Coker goal with 20 seconds left in the third quarter, LR would put seven straight on the board to get the running clock.

Cambrie Cochran (2), Alex Burghardt (3), Kirra Olson and Madison Brugger were the goal scorers in the 7-0 spurt to make it 19-7. Christensen and Burghardt led LR with three goals and Olson had two goals and three assists. Kaitlyn Cavanaugh had two goals and two assists.

The all-time leader in caused turnovers led to her total in this one as Isabelle Dunnam forced six giveaways by the Cobras. Christensen added four ground balls and three draw controls. Ellie Campbell and Burghardt led the Bears with four draw controls.

Teanna Sieben made four saves to earn the victory.

A season-high 11 different players found the back of the net for the Bears in the victory. LR ripped a season-high 38 shots and 31 shots on goal. The 15 caused turnovers were the second most this season.

The Bears are now 9-1 all-time against Coker. LR moves to 53-15 all-time in SAC games and 48-34 in road games.

The Bears are 2-0 in league play for the second straight season and the third time in the last four years.

Lenoir-Rhyne is 3-4, 2-0 SAC. The Bears return home to take on Catawba on Saturday at 4 p.m. in SAC action.
