The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Golf Team competed at the Low Tide Intercollegiate Tuesday and finished in 8th. The Bears finished with a team score of 951 in the 17-team tournament.
“The weather dictated a lot this week and the course set up was difficult,” said Head Coach Elliot Gealy following the tournament. “The scores were higher on average across the board. The girls struggled this week and sometimes you have to learn the hard way. I told the girls, this was a great learning experience and we’re going to be better from this.”
The Bears shot a 316 in round on and a 315 in round two which occurred on a windy Monday in South Carolina. On the final day of the tournament, LR shot a 320.
The top finishing Bear was Beatriz Espelosin who was in a 14th place tie after round scores of 75-77-78 giving her a score of 230 for the week. Trailing Espelosin was senior Megan Robb who took home a second place finish a week ago. Robb recovered from an opening round 83 to post identical rounds of 77 in rounds two and three and finished tied for 30th. Katie Sibley was three shots behind Robb, shooting a 79 and 76 on the first day but struggling to an 85 in round three.
After playing back-to-back weeks, the Bears are off until March 15 when they compete at the Ralph Hargett Invitational at Stonebridge Country Club.
