L-R Track and Field Student-Athletes, Coaches Earn All-Region Honors

With the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announcing their Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year, four members of the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Teams were honored for their achievements in the 2022-23 indoor season.

Kevin Paterson was named the Southeast Region Male and Female Head Coach of the Year while Seandell Davis was named as the Southeast Region Male and Female Assistant Coach of the Year.

Both the men and women squads finished in second place at the 2023 SAC Indoor Championships. At the NCAA Indoor Championships, the men and women’s squads each had the best finishes in program history – the men taking seventh while the women placed 12th.

Alexis Brown took home the 2023 Southeast Women’s Track Athlete of the Year. The freshman is coming off winning the first indoor individual national title in program history with the 200-meter dash. Her 23.26 time was the fastest time ever recorded at the national championships.

In addition to winning the 200-meter dash, Brown finished fourth place in the 60-meter sprint at the NCAA Indoor Championships, giving her 15 points on the weekend. The Mableton, Ga. native also won the SAC Freshman of the Meet at the SAC Indoor Championships.

Jacob Wadsworth earned the 2023 Southeast Men’s Field Athlete of the Year. The senior secured a fourth-place finish in the men’s heptathlon and recorded a new personal best in the process with a 5523 total score. Within the event, he took first place finishes in the 60-meter dash and 1000-meter race.

The Dansville, N.Y. native also swept the conference awards with the SAC Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Meet at the SAC Indoor Championships.
