L-R Track and Field Hosts Outdoor Season Opener

The Lenoir-Rhyne Track and Field teams opened up their outdoor season at home this weekend even with adverse rainy conditions.

This meet featured four other schools including SAC opponents Catawba, Limestone, and Anderson.

On the women’s side, the day began with the women’s weight throw in which Bekki Roche finished 2nd with a hurl of 45.80m. Roche would then follow that up with a 10.94 throw in shotput putting her in 5th. Taylor Gardin and Olivia Jackson just followed Roche placing 7th and 8th with throws of 10.69m and 9.89m. Kylie Dahlberg and Caroline Hilliard would then go back-to-back in the 5000m run placing 2nd and 3rd with times of 18:08.38 and 18:09.27. On day two, Lakiya Joshua placed 10th in long jump with a leap of 4.59m. Lacey Triplett then placed 4th in javelin by finishing with a final mark of 34.04m. Maigan Bowman then set a new PR and took 1st in high jump with a 1.55m leap. Pearl Ballard and Triplett then tied for 2nd in pole vault with marks of 2.90m. Dahlebrg took home 2nd place in the 1500m run with a 4:50.58. Leticia Venancio kepr it rolling for LR finishing 2nd in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.48m. Kara Gavaghan and Saidah Hardwick would then go back-to-back in the 400m dash going 3rd and 4th with times of 58.12 and 58.34. Zaria hall would match that performance and place 3rd in 100m dash with a 12.83. Alexis Taylor and Adie Bjerkness staying hot for LR going 1st and 2nd in the 800m run with 2:24.91 and 2:25.81. Hardwick continued her hot start for LR finishing 5th in the 200m dash with a 26.19.

On the men’s side, Dawson Sigmon got things rolling in men’s weight throw finishing 2nd with a mark of 45.08m. Elllis Horton led the way in shotput finishing 5th with a throw of 11.32m. Ezra Grate and Sigmon placing right behind Horton in shotput 7th and 8th with final marks of 10.85m and 10.22m. On day two, Nick Henriques kicked things off in the long jump finishing 3rd with a jump of 6.73m. Josh Wise led the way in javelin finishing 2nd with a throw of 50.40m. Grate and Colby Beeker placed just behind Wise finishing 4th and 5th respectively with throws of 37.67m and 37.32m. Horton continued the momentum and dominated in discus throw taking home 1st with a throw of 40.92m. Chris Reichenbach and Daniel Nicholson would go back-to-back in pole vault placing 4th and 5th with jumps of 4.25m and 4.20m. LR would also take 1st in the 4x100m relay race with a 40.85, P.J. Lotharp, Marlin Davis, Lucas Besong and Royce Turner Jr. making up the relay. Devine Drummond would then follow this up a 2nd place finish in 110m hurdles with a 15.96. Besong would also take home the crown in the 400m dash taking 1st with a time of 49.70. LR swept the 100m going 1st, 2nd and 3rd with Davis, Lotharp and Turner Jr. beating out the field. Davis would not stop there taking home 1st in the 200m dash with a 21.56. The 4x400m relay team would close out the day finishing 1st with a time of 3:20.84. The team was made up of Chandelor Stamp, Lotharp, Davis and Besong.

The Bears will return to action at home on March 13 for the Lenoir-Rhyne Opener.
