L-R Track and Field Hosts Lenoir-Rhyne Opener

The Lenoir-Rhyne Track and Field Teams competed in the Lenoir-Rhyne Opener Saturday.

On the women’s side, Olivia Jackson started off the day finishing 3rd in the hammer throw with a final mark of 40.47m. Kimberley Owens also placed 3rd in the long jump with a mark of 4.79m. Savannah Nippa and Jackson would then go back-to-back in discus throw 5th and 6th with throws of 32.99m and 32.97m. Maigan Bowman would follow this up with a 1st place finish in high jump with a 1.49m. Lakiya Joshua continued the momentum for LR in triple jump finishing 2nd with a 9.56m. Taylor Gardin would also show out in the shot put placing 2nd with a throw of 11.66m. Kylie Dahlberg then added to the success finishing 1st in the 1500 meter race with a time of 4:47.55. Leticia Venancio busted out a 2nd place finish in 100m hurdles with a time of 15.46. Saidah Hardwick followed that up in the 400m dash with a 2nd place finish and time of 58.39, Jordan Shealey placed in 2nd in the 100m dash with a time of 12.37. Dahlberg and Taylor Meadows go back-to-back in the 800m run in 1st and 2nd with times of 2:21.92 and 2:23.79. Shealey would add another top time in the 200m dash placing 4th with a final time 25.82.

On the men’s side, Ellis Horton placed 2nd in the hammer throw with a hurl of 42.72m. Horton took home the crown in discus throw placing 1st with a throw of 42.78m. Austin Gross was high mark man in the shot put finishing 3rd with a throw of 12.71m. Eli Riggs and Harrison Hickman went back-to-back in the 1500m run in 5th and 6th with times of 4:29.08 and 4:38.26. Justice Robinson then finished 4th in 400m dash with a time of 51.18. Kaynmon Maddox continued the hot start for LR placing 5th in the 100m dash with a time of 11.29. Leo Martinez and Marcus Crumpler go back-to-back in the 800m run in 2nd and 3rd with times of 1:58.78 and 1:59.90.

The Bears will be back in action Thursday March 18 at the 49er Classic hosted by UNC Charlotte.
