L-R Men’s Tennis Falters Against 27th Ranked Tusculum

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Team had their two-match winning streak snapped on Sunday with a 6-1 loss to No. 27 Tusculum.

While the match was originally scheduled to take place on Friday, the two sides had to complete the competition on Sunday due to the rain.

It was a rough outing for the Bears as Mauricio Hernandez was the only singles player to win a match. The junior took a straight-set victory in No. 5 singles with a 7-6(6), 6-2 result.

Despite only taking one match, the Bears had a couple of fierce matches at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Patrick Alvestrand, who competed at the No. 3 line, took the first set, 6-4, before dropping two straight sets in a 1-6, 5-7 decision. Meanwhile, Rufus Plane knotted things up after the second set with a 7-6 win, but in the third set, the freshman was handed a 10-5 loss.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Team will be back in action on Tuesday, April 4 at 1:00 p.m. against Mars Hill. The match will be held at the YMCA of Catawba Valley.
