L-R Men’s Tennis Falls to Lincoln Memorial

On the final day of the regular season, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Team suffered a 5-2 defeat to Lincoln Memorial.

The top two singles players, Zachary Cox and Vadym Rogynskyi, were the bright spots of the afternoon as each of them came away with victories.

At No. 1 singles, Cox pulled a three-set victory over Alexandru Giurea by taking the final set in a 10-point tiebreaker. Meanwhile for Rogynskyi, the freshman took care of Thom Hermans en route to a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles.

In doubles, all three matches were highly competitive, but each outcome read out the same fate – a 6-4 LMU victory, which allowed the Railsplitters to grab the early lead.

The Bears had their opportunities in singles to pull out a victory, but some matches just fell short.

At the No. 3 singles line, Patrik Alvestrand won the second set, 6-3, to force a third. But in the 10-point tiebreaker format, the senior was ousted 10-5.

For Joel Hemmings, the junior also knotted his match up at one set apiece after an electrifying 7-6 (5) second-set victory. However, he dropped the third set in a 6-3 outcome.

Up next for the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Team is the SAC Men’s Tennis Tournament. The Bears have clinched the No. 7 seed and will face the No. 2 seed in the quarterfinal round. The match is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start on Thursday, April 20 from the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
