L-R Men’s Tennis Edges Out Catawba

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis pulled out their second-straight 4-3 victory with a win over Catawba on Thursday.

The Bears could not have asked for a better start to the match as they swept all three doubles matches to the final score of 6-3. After cruising their way through doubles, LR kept things rolling into singles.

It was a good day to be an even-numbered singles player for the Bears as they were victorious at the No. 2, 4 and 6 lines.

At No. 2 singles, Vadym Rogynskyi squeezed by in the first set with a 7-6 result before controlling the second set in a 6-2 final. Meanwhile at No. 4 singles, Rufus Plane had a similar affair with a tight first set followed by a commanding second set in a 7-5, 6-2 outcome.

That was not particularly the case at No. 6 singles as Joel Hemmings had a couple of tight sets, but the junior got some clutch 7-5 wins in each set to clinch the match.

With this victory, the Bears have won four of their last five matches, and have secured at least a .500 conference record with a 6-4 mark heading into the final week of the regular season.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Tennis Team will make their final appearance at the YMCA of Catawba Valley this regular season as they host Wingate on Wednesday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m.
