L-R Men’s Basketball Earns Two All-Conference, Bradford Named Defensive Player of the Year

Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Basketball had a trio of individuals win awards as the South Atlantic Conference announced its 2020-21 award winners this morning. R.J. Gunn was named First Team All-Conference and Darius Simmons earned a spot on the Second Team. Davion Bradford was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Gunn earns consecutive spots on the First Team All-Conference after earning the distinction in 2019-20 as well. He is the first Lenoir-Rhyne player to repeat as a First Team selection since Reggie Bratton did in 2006-07. Gunn averaged 17.6 points per game and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 49.7 percent from the field and 42.2 percent from long range.

Simmons was an Honorable Mention selection a season ago and earned a spot on the second team. Simmons led the Bears in scoring with 18.0 points per game and shot 43.7 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from long range. Simmons scored a season-high 33 points against Newberry in the SAC Tournament Quarterfinal.

Bradford was a pest defensively and becomes the first player in program history to earn Defensive Player of the Year. Bradford had at least one steal in all but one game this season and had multiple steals in a game on nine different occasions. Bradford had a season-high four steals against Wingate. It is the third year the award has been handed out by the South Atlantic Conference.
