The Lenoir-Rhyne’s Baseball team fell 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Lincoln Memorial in a mid-week non-conference matchup. Connor Smith scored both runs for the Bears including his 5th homerun of the season.
Hayden Gresham (1-1) got his first start of the year. The sophomore went four innings giving up four runs (two earned) while striking out three Railsplitters but suffered the lost in this one.
Lincoln Memorial jumped on the Bears early with three runs in the first all the action happened after the first two batters were retired to start the inning.
Both teams traded solo homeruns in the fourth. Bears got theirs from Connor Smith then Dalton Dedas hit one for Lincoln Memorial in the bottom half.
Brett Fulk, Joey Cobb, Kanan Butler, Ben Friebel combined to throw four scoreless innings for the Bears out of the bullpen.
LR was held to three hits on the day, a single by Nick Clarno and a triple and homerun from Smith.
The teams spilt the season series this year with LR winning earlier this year 10-9 after an Xander Ferlenda walk-off single. Both games this year were non-conference games.
Bears fell to 0-7 when opponents score in the first inning this year. They also are 0-7 this year when opponents have out-hit the Bears. Bears were out hit 10-3 today.
The triple for Smith was his first career three bagger for the sophomore.
The Bears are 11-16 overall, 8-12 in the South Atlantic Conference. LR returns home to start a four-game SAC series with Wingate on Friday. First pitch of game one is at 1:00 PM.
