A juvenile has been charged in connection to an armed robbery. On Friday, February 2, 2024, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Bethlehem Road in western Iredell County. They were called to Bethlehem Methodist Church in reference to a report from a victim who said someone had just attempted to rob him at gunpoint while he was working outside.
When the deputies arrived, they learned that the male gunman had approached the victim, saying, “Give me everything in your pockets,” while pointing a gun at him. The victim refused to give the gunman anything and told him to leave the area. When the gunman realized he wasn’t getting anything from the victim, he stated, “I will come back and shoot up the whole church,” and fled on foot.
Deputies started searching the area for the suspect. After talking with several bystanders it was determined the suspect was a juvenile who lived in the area.
Deputies, as well as detectives, then went to the home of the juvenile. After speaking with the juvenile it was determined that he matched the description given by the victim. When officers tried to detain the juvenile, he became very combative, tried to run from deputies, and then spit in the face of one of the detectives.
The 16-year-old juvenile was charged with felony counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, communicating threats of mass violence, and malicious conduct by a prisoner. and was transported to the Alexander County Juvenile Detention Center. He was being held in secured custody.
