STATESVILLE, N.C. (WHKY) — The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is accepting registrations for its upcoming Rape Aggression Defense, or RAD, Women’s Self-Defense Course.

The nationally recognized program is designed to help women become more confident, aware and prepared to respond to potentially dangerous situations. The course covers awareness, prevention, risk reduction, risk avoidance and practical hands-on self-defense techniques taught by certified Sheriff’s Office instructors.

The class will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 9, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Communications and Training Annex, located at 1714 Wilkesboro Highway in Statesville.

Officials say no prior experience is required, and women of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to participate. Registration is required, and class size may be limited.
