The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is searching for an inmate who was accidentally released from custody yesterday (July 24).

The inmate is 42-year-old Dennis James Danner, Jr., who lists an address on Causby Drive in Morganton. At about three o’clock Monday afternoon, Burke County Detention Officers released Danner from custody after they mistook him for another inmate with a similar name. The error was discovered during an inmate check at 5:30 this morning.

Danner had been jailed under a $2,500 bond on three misdemeanor counts of communicating threats and two misdemeanor probation violations. A District Court appearance on those charges was set for August 7 in Morganton. Danner is on probation as he serves a 12-month suspended sentence following a December 2022 misdemeanor larceny conviction in Burke County.
