Inmate Found Deceased In Lincoln County

An inmate at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center has died. Detention staff discovered the body of 50-year-old Chad Christopher Caldwell unresponsive in his cell Wednesday around 11:30 p.m. and called 911. Efforts to revive the inmate by detention staff were unsuccessful.

Lincoln County EMS responded to the scene for the unknown medical emergency. Caldwell was pronounced dead at the scene. The North Carolina State Bureau Of Investigation and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the death. No foul play was involved. The body will be transported to Atrium Health Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem for an autopsy.

Caldwell was being held in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center on pending felony drug charges.
