Inmate Escapes From Caldwell County Prison [UPDATED 3 p.m. 07/18]

Corrections and law enforcement Officers are seeking inmate Matthew Neil Brown, who escaped Monday (July 17) from the Caldwell Correctional Center, a minimum-security prison facility on Pleasant Hill Road in Lenoir.

Brown was serving a 19-month sentence for possession of stolen goods and drug possession and was due to be released in February 2024. Brown stands 5′ 6″ tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds. He has black hair, green eyes, and a beard.

UPDATE 3 p.m. TUESDAY: After spending eight hours conducting an extensive search in the area of Bristol Road off of Highway 70 West, Iredell County Deputies and Criminal Investigators, along with personnel from the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections, have called off the investigation.

Deputies and Investigators conducted several interviews and collected surveillance video in an effort to locate Matthew Neil Brown. According to a press release from the Iredell Sheriff’s Office, there is currently no definitive information indicating that Brown is still in the area. Patrol units will remain in the area.
