Indoor Track State Championships Has Multiple Individual Podium Finishes for Area Athletes, East Burke Boys Finish Second

This weekend, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association had the Indoor Track State Championships. The event was held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem. The 1A/2A class were combined for their championship while the 3A and 4A classes held their own championships.

In the 1A/2A class, Kenneth Byrd of East Burke finished first in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches. He outlasted teammate Avery Farley by two inches.

Byrd finished second with a time of 7.52 second in the 55-meter hurdles. He was .02 seconds off from the winner. Farley finished third for East Burke at 7.79 seconds.

Patton relay team of Gabe Wykle, Charlie Bennett, Austin McGuire and Alex Gonzalez finished second in the 4×800 meter relay. They finished .18 seconds behind the race winners.

Kage Hefner of Bandys won the pole vault event with a clearance of 16-feet. East Burke’s Byrd finished second at 15 feet. Byrd also finished third in the long jump, 21 feet, 7 inches.

East Burke’s Farley won the triple jump with a leap of 45 feet, 7 inches.

As a team, East Burke finished in second place.

In the 3A class, Hibriten’s Jada Brown won the girls long jump at 17 feet, 9.5 inches. She came in third in the triple jump at 36 feet, 7 inches.

Hickory’s Kwan Oates won the boys triple jump at 45 feet, 1 inch.
