BROOKFORD, N.C. (WHKY) – Foul play is suspected following the discovery of human remains Monday (July 20) in Catawba County. According to a news release from the Brookford Police Department, during a search, investigators with that agency and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation found human remains buried at a property on 4th Street Place SW. The search was in connection to the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Claude Wayne “Doc” Holsclaw. Brookford Police Chief Willie Armstrong requested assistance with that search last Friday (July 17).

The remains have not been positively identified, authorities were not able to confirm if they are those of Mr. Holsclaw or whether they are connected to his disappearance. They were to be transported to the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for positive identification. That office will also work to determine the cause and manner of death.

Based on the circumstances surrounding the discovery, investigators suspect foul play. No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation is continuing.
