The Hickory Crawdads dominated the Greensboro Grasshoppers in the eighth inning, scoring nine runs in a 11-3 win on the road.
The Grasshoppers scored first in the second inning, and Hickory would respond in the top of the third. Wyatt Langford hit his fourth home run since joining the Crawdads, to tie the score at 1-1.
Hickory would add another run in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Cooper Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Cody Freeman to score. However, Greensboro answered with a run in the home half of the sixth inning to tie the game at two.
In the eighth inning, Cody Freeman was walked. A pitching change for Greensboro didn’t hep as Geisel Cepeda singled. Daniel Mateo singled to load the bases. Yosy Galan hit into a fielders choice, but he reached first on an error and Freeman scored. Johnson was walked, allowing Cepeda to score. Cameron Cauley then hit a grand slam and Hickory led 8-2. Another pitching change immediately drew a walk for Max Acosta. Jayce Easley came in to pinch hit for Langford and he was walked. One batter later, Freeman singled, allowing Acosta to score. Cepeda reached first on another Greensboro error and it allowed Easley to score. Mateo would hit a sacrifice fly for the second out, but Freeman scored.
All but one player had at least one score for the Crawdads. Hickory improves to 35-19 on the second half of the season. They have a four game lead over the Bowling Green Hot Rods in the Southern Division of the South Atlantic League with 11 games left to play in the regular season.
