50-year-old Timothy Eugene Craig of Pine Mountain Road in Hudson has been arrested by Lenoir Police on one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Shortly before 9 p.m. yesterday (May 21), Lenoir Police responded to a reported shooting behind a residence on S.W. Frazier Place in Lenoir. When Officers arrived, they found the victim, Chelli Renee Ledbetter, suffering from a gunshot wound to her head. Ms. Ledbetter was initially transported to U.N.C. Health Caldwell and was later transferred to Atrium Healthcare in Charlotte where she was listed in stable condition, at last report.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Ms. Ledbetter and the suspect, Timothy Craig, are in a dating relationship and live at the same address on Pine Mountain Road. While at the Frazier Place residence, the couple became involved in a verbal argument over jointly owned property. During the altercation, Craig produced a 9mm handgun and fired one shot, striking Ms. Ledbetter in the upper hairline area. Other individuals at the scene subdued Craig until Officers arrived and took him into custody without further incident.

Craig was jailed in the Caldwell County Detention Center where was initially held without bond due to the domestic nature of the incident. A first appearance in District Court was scheduled today in Lenoir.
