The Alexander County Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating a weekend fire. According to County Fire Marshal Mark Earle, an abandoned home was destroyed by fire Saturday evening (September 30).

Shortly before midnight on Saturday, Taylorsville, Sugar Loaf and Ellendale units were dispatched to 796 Old Wilkesboro Road. The home was engulfed in flames. The Fire Marshal says there was no electrical service to the structure.

The home had been vacant for years. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
