Holiday Closings for Hickory, Catawba County, & Caldwell County

In observance of the Christmas holiday, City of Hickory offices will be closed Thursday, December 24, through Monday, December 28. Offices will re-open on Tuesday, December 29, at 8:30 a.m. City offices will also be closed in observance of New Year’s Day on Friday, January 1, and will re-open on Monday, January 4, at 8:30 a.m.

The city’s Solid Waste Department and its services will operate on a normal schedule on Thursday, December 24. All solid waste collection services, including garbage and recycling pickup, will be suspended on Friday, December 25, for Christmas Day. Friday’s collection routes will run on Saturday, December 26.

Hickory Public Libraries, both the Patrick Beaver Memorial main facility and the Ridgeview Branch, will be closed Thursday, December 24, through Monday, December 28, and on Friday, January 1.

The Highland Recreation Center and the Administrative Offices will be closed Thursday, December 24, through Monday, December 28. The Highland Recreation Center will close early at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, and remain closed on Friday, January 1, for New Year’s Day.

Operating in conjunction with the Hickory Public Schools calendar for virtual learning, the Brown Penn Recreation Center will be closed starting Monday, December 21, and will re-open Tuesday, January 5.

All other Hickory recreation centers continue to be closed to the public. Parks are open 365 days a year.

Catawba County Government Offices will be closed for Christmas on Thursday, December 24, Friday, December 25, and Monday, December 28. They’ll also be closed on New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1.

Catawba County parks (Bakers Mountain, Riverbend, and St. Stephens) will be closed Thursday, December 24 and Friday, December 25. All Catawba County parks will be open on New Year’s Day.

The Catawba County Library System will be closed on Thursday, December 24 through Monday, December 28. The libraries will also close at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, and will remain closed for New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1.

The Blackburn Sanitary Landfill will close at noon on Thursday, December 24. The landfill will be closed on Friday, December 25, and on New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1. The Blackburn Construction & Demolition Landfill will be close on December 24 & 25 and on New Year’s Day.

Catawba County’s convenience centers will be closed on Friday, December 25, and Friday, January 1.

All Caldwell County offices will be closed Thursday, Friday, and Monday (December 24, 25, & 28) in observance of the Christmas holiday. County offices will re-open with limited public access on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (December 29-31).

Caldwell County offices will close again on Friday, January 1, in observance of the New Year holiday. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, county offices will re-open with limited public access on Monday, January 4.
