Hit And Run Crash In Iredell County Results In Death Of Pedestrian, Charges Possible

A man was killed in a hit and run in Iredell County. Thursday (March 4) at approximately 9:30 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to a collision in Iredell County on Old Mountain Road near US 70. The preliminary investigation indicates a pedestrian was walking on Old Mountain Road when struck by a northbound vehicle.

The suspect vehicle failed to stop, and the pedestrian was soon struck again by a northbound 2004 GMC Safari. The pedestrian, 54-year-old David Morris Hawks of Statesville, passed away at the scene. The driver of the GMC, a Taylorsville man, was not injured.

The suspect turned himself in this morning (March 5) at the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle has also been located and secured by investigating troopers. Charges are pending an ongoing investigation and consultation with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office.
