Highway Patrol Investigating Incident Wednesday on I-40 in Catawba County

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating an incident that occurred Wednesday (March 6) in Catawba County.

At about 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, Troopers responded to a collision on Interstate-40 East near mile marker 132. According to the Highway Patrol, an orange Dodge Charger with a newer body-style and tinted windows was traveling east on I-40 at a high rate of speed and in a reckless manner. The Charger merged into the right lane from the left lane, nearly hitting a black Honda Civic. In an effort to avoid the Charger, the driver of the Honda swerved to the right, lost control, drove off the right side of the road, and overturned several times. The driver was transported to an area hospital by E.M.S. with non-life-threatening injuries.

After the collision, the Charger continued east on I-40 and left the scene. There are no pictures of the Dodge Charger available. The Charger did not sustain any damage.
