Highway Crash Claims Two Lives

Two people were killed in a crash in Lincoln County. On Friday (March 26), at approximately 1:10 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to Campground Road near Pine Ridge Drive. A 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling west on Campground Road, crossed the centerline, and collided head-on with an eastbound 2002 GMC Yukon.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a Denver, N.C. man, was transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the GMC, 73-year-old Boyce Louis Moore of Charlotte, passed away at the scene. A passenger in the GMC, 74-year-old Michael Dean Spillars of Charlotte, also succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The initial investigation indicates reckless driving on the part of the driver of the Chevrolet to be a contributing circumstance. Traffic was detoured as the roadway was closed for over two hours.
