Hickory Teenager Charged In Connection To Reported Chase In Newton

18-year-old Kasey Dale Mecimore of Hickory was arrested Friday (February 23) by Newton Police Officers. He’s charged with felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle. In addition, Mecimore is charged with speeding and reckless driving with wanton disregard.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Friday, an officer with the Newton Police Department was monitoring traffic in the area of 1201 U.S. Highway 70 in Newton. While monitoring the traffic, the Officer saw a blue 4-door Honda Civic traveling westbound on U.S. 70 at a high rate of speed. The Officer clocked the Civic at 102-mph in a 50-mph zone on his in-car radar unit.

The Officer activated his emergency equipment and attempted to catch up to the Honda, which refused to stop for the Officer. The pursuit continued through the City of Hickory and into Catawba County. The chase covered approximately 23 miles and continued for about 18 minutes, ending when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an unoccupied business (Golf Cars of Hickory) at 6576 N. NC 16 Highway in Conover.

The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Kasey Dale Mecimore was arrested and charged. He was booked into the Catawba County Detention Center under a $2,500 secured bond and had his first appearance in Newton District Court on Monday (February 26). The passenger and registered owner of the vehicle was seen by EMS at the scene and released. Mecimore did not sustain any visual injuries and refused medical assistance.
