41-year-old Joey Christoforo Niglio, who is listed as a homeless person from Hickory, was arrested Monday (April 17) by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony failure to register as a sex offender along with a child support count.

Niglio is on the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry as a result of convictions in 2018 in Catawba County. He was convicted on February 1 and 2 of 2018 on counts of indecent liberties with a minor and attempted indecent liberties with a minor. The victims age was 14-years-old at the time of the offenses. The crimes occurred in August, November, and December of 2015.

Niglio received three months jail time and 36 months of probation following the convictions. He was required to register as a sex offender for a minimum of ten years. The registration is with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Following Monday’s arrest, Niglio was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $7,000 bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (April 19). A District Court date on the felony charge was scheduled Tuesday (April 18). A Civil District Court appearance on the child support charge is set for Thursday (April 20).
