Hickory P.D. Reports Arrest of Man on Drug & Domestic Violence Charges

45-year-old Durell Waikese Byrd, who is listed as a homeless person from Hickory, was arrested by Hickory Police last night (July 13) on one felony count of possession of a schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine) and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged with a misdemeanor domestic violence protection order violation.

Byrd was taken into custody without incident just after 7 p.m. Thursday at a residential address on 3rd Avenue Drive S.E. in Hickory. He was placed in the Catawba County Detention Facility where he was initially held without bond on the domestic violence protection order violation. Bond on the drug charge was set at $5,000. Byrd remained in jail as of this afternoon. A first appearance in District Court on the meth charge was scheduled today with another court date coming up on August 3 in Newton.
