Hickory Man Wins Big in the N.C.E.L.

George Scheide of Hickory has won a $1 million prize in the North Carolina Education Lottery’s $10 Million Spectacular game. He purchased his on a $50 scratch-off ticket from the Kountry Kwik Stop store on N.C. 127 in Hickory.

Mr. Scheide collected his winnings Tuesday (May 7) and chose to receive his prize as a lump sum of $600,000. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home nearly $430,000.

The $10 Million Spectacular game debuted in December with five top prizes of $10-million, 20 prizes of $1-million and 20 prizes of $100,000. Three $10-million prizes, 14 $1-million prizes and 12 $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
